Trump's racist, xenophobic immigration policies threaten our friends and neighbors. The administration has promised to revoke federal funding for cities that adopt sanctuary legislation. We need a way to protect our communities from this onslaught.
The California legislature is considering several bills that would provide sanctuary legislation at the state level. The strongest of these is SB 54, the California Values Act. SB 54 would prevent state and local resources from being used to aid federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in deportation actions, and the bill would also make public schools, hospitals and courthouses safe havens for California residents, regardless of immigration status. SB 54 is currently under consideration by the Senate's Public Safety Committee. Immigrants' Rights groups such as the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) are spearheading a campaign to advance SB 54 past committee towards a full vote by the Senate, and they need our help.
